Anderson-Demartino Project
The Anderson-Demartino project was both challenging and fun. The house was a full remodel, an addition was put on for extra space and the walls were down to the studs.
The goal for this home was to achieve a classic tudor exterior, which fit in with both the neighborhood and its era. The blend of 6 different stones accompanied by the brick was chosen by the homeowners, who had a great sense of design and detail. This blend creates an exterior which is brand new, but looks 100 years old. That's the beauty of natural stone - it's timeless.
From the first time I looked at the plan, I was excited about the project. Everywhere you looked, it had another architectural detail. Many of those details simply are not common in todays new construction. The wing walls, the moon gate arch - it's all old-school. It allowed us, as masons, to step back in time. The most profound detail, the front entry, was redesigned mid-project. This required some versatility. We went from a 4" veneer to a 12" facade. The mitered stone arch was added, along with the Indiana limestone corbels and caps. I believe that decision is what tied it all together.
This home, as with any successful project, was a real collaboration by many people from different backgrounds. Many thanks go to our homeowners who shared their ideas and allowed us to include our own personal touches. Brian Nowak, the lead architect from Sharrat Design. Jerry Boldenau, the general contractor. Hedberg Aggregates, and all of the additional trades that were involved. We worked together to create the whole. It was an honor to be a part of such a talented team.
