Hedberg Heritage

The History of Hedberg

Today's Hedberg companies were founded in 1987 by Steve Hedberg. Steve called his company "Hedberg Aggregates Inc."* and more recently refined the name to "Hedberg Landscape and Masonry Supplies" to better reflect the products his companies represent. The Hedberg Family, however, has a far longer history of supplying construction products in the Twin Cities.

Hedberg - Freidheim & Co. Steve's grandfather, Fred Hedberg, began his business in the early 1900s with a team of horses hauling sand and gravel and a few hard workers digging basements in south Minneapolis. Fred ended up as a pioneer in the concrete block and redi-mix concrete industry under the name Hedberg Friedheim & Co. and later, Hedberg & Sons Co.

Hedberg Aggregates also arose from humble beginnings. Starting in a rented converted garage located at Hopkins Crossroad and Cedar Lake Road, Steve Hedberg founded Hedberg Aggregates, Inc. in 1987. Steve, along with his small crew of eight, primarily sold decorative rock and sand on a cash/carry basis for do-it-yourselfers. Twenty years later, through hard work and attention to customer service, Hedberg Landscape & Masonry Supplies is now considered an Industry leader in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota.
